Help Stop The Naming of A NYC Street After Mumia - *Updated 02/06/07

From Anti-MOVE/Mumia

Having profaned a street in a suburb of France the pro-Jamal zealots have now decided to repeat their "success" here in the United States by having a street in New York City, named after the convicted cop-killer. Pursuant to this goal, the Mumia devotees have started a petition and have even gone so far as to raise money for T.V. commercial spots as a means of bringing attention to their cause.

To name a street after a confirmed killer, cult apologist, and virulent anti-American fanatic like Jamal would be a vile testament to the power of propaganda and an ugly reminder that ignorance has again triumphed over common sense and human decency. In order to counter the Jamal supporters efforts a petition has been launched that I encourage everyone to sign and circulate amongst your family and friends.

The facts of the case are available at danielfaulkner.com.

Sign the petition and let us show that the citizens of this country have no interest in honoring murderers.

UPDATE: 01/30/07
There are over 7,400 signatures and climbing on the 'Say No To Naming A Harlem Street After a Cop-Killer' petition. The story is now up on the website for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

UPDATE: 01/31/07
For information about who and what is behind the " NYC Pro-Mumia Street" petition go to Anti-MOVE/Mumia.

UPDATE: 02/06/07
The 'Say No to Naming a Harlem Street after a Cop-Killer' petition has reached 22,000 signatures. I'd say this is an outstanding show of both public outrage and unity among law enforcement on local, state and federal levels as well as the law-abiding public at large. For information on where to send emails to the New York City Council go to Anti-MOVE/Mumia.

That is sickening. Anyone that knows any of the facts in that case knows he should have taken the needle 10 years ago. That poor cop was assassinated as he was bleeding on the ground. I thought the French were bad.

UI, Thanks for bringing this travesty to our attention. As I wrote in my signature on the petition, naming a street after this copkiller is like naming a school after a pedophile. Disgusting and completely wrong!

Thank you for alerting me about this. I can't believe the mayor would ever allow this to happen but this world is getting crazier all the time.
Even considering naming a street after a cop killer makes me sick.
It truly shows the difference in our cultures.

So nice to encounter another true infidel... and God bless you for that!

Your slide show of Stewart, Churchill and the associating traitors is excellent. Exposure is the very best way to unclothe these imbeciles.

I also signed the petition.

So glad to find you, fellow infidel. Noted and linked... I'll be back!

Warmest regards.

Good lord people back home have flipped.

I am trying to remember but the overpass to the Brooklyn Bridge was named for Ari Halberstam. Does anyone remember him today?

beak,
The renaming of a street to Mumia is just not going to happen. The petition has gained a lot of traction and now the NYPD is on the City Council about it. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

And yes, I remember that shooting on the Brooklyn Bridge very well. I don't think it got a lot of national coverage though.

From one of the links you provided:

On July 2, 1982, after being tried before a jury of ten whites and two blacks, Mumia Abu-Jamal was convicted of murdering Officer Danny Faulkner. The next day, the jury sentenced him to death after deliberating for two hours. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania heard the defendant's appeals and upheld the conviction on March 6, 1989.

Even considering naming a street after this vile murderer is a travesty! Something akin to naming a street in the LA area after Charles Manson.

Friends,
I was switched to the new blogger and now some of the previous comments have been deleted and some have had their blogger ID links and icons removed. I don't know know this happens. If anyone can tell me how to change it back, I'd love to know.

Very annoyed about this and I apologize.

UI,

This is Freedom Now here. I have had the same thing happen on other blogs (like Farmers Letters) so I am used to it by now.

Changes are great, but not when you are dealing with software.

I'm glad to see the petition moving forward so quickly.
I don't believe that Bloomberg would ever let this happen but in today's world...who the hell knows?

AC,
Nearing 10,000 signatures.

At this rate, it WILL NEVER HAPPEN. EVER.

Just wondering if there were any upcoming events. I would very much the interested in joining, depending on the weather.
Most people don't know but I was stabbed in the neck at an ATM by a crackhead in Atlanta. The cold weather really hampers my ability to get around.
I really admire you for your dedication and most of all your PARTICIPATION.

AC,
Oh jeez, stabbed? That's terrible. Thank God you are alright.

I appreciate your support. I hope that I am making some kind of contribution. This street naming thing is just unacceptable in my city. Its bad enough that they got an CCNY college auditorium named after another cop-killer. Only in the Middle East and in France do they name streets after murderers.

We'd love to have you. There are some things coming up, something important. So please email me or send me yours.

-----------------------------------

Who is the administrator of this site -- Jeremy Syrop?

-----------------------------------

Based on various online petitions and newsgroups he appears on, Syrop appears to originally hail from Chappaqua NY (perhaps he's a neighbor of that other friend of cops, Hillary Clinton). His High School era activities include signing a petition to free convicted Earth Liberation Front terrorist Jeff Luers, membership or perhaps organizing of a local free mumia group, and organizing a protest of Indian Point as a member of the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition.

His parents may possible be Steven and Nancy Smahl-Syrop of Chappaqua. Nancy may have some involvement with Columbia University and Indian Point activism. Steven may be a dentist.
-----------------------------------
Jeremy Syrop is still a busy bee as a student at The New School, where he organizes multiple "causes."

For instance in December 2006, Syrop organized a speaking event at The New School by disgraced Colorado professor Ward Churchill. You may recall Churchill being controversial from his public comparison of World Trade Center victims to Nazis and his vocal praise and support for their murders. Subsequently, it was discovered that he was a plagiarizer and liar on various issues, which led to his tenure being revoked. Link to Churchill Event Information

This link includes another link to a flyer for the event. The flyer is on the Freemumia.com site. It also lists an additional point-of-contact for Mr. Syrop at:

Quote:for more info email:
syroj542@newschool.edu.

Mr. Syrop is also quoted in a NY Sun story about the event, in which he is described as a 20 year old student at The New School. NY Sun article
--------------------------------------

A New School newsletter from February 2006, reveals that Syrop is the leader of the New School Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). Some of you may recall SDS from the 1960's as a coalition member with various terror groups such as the Black Liberation Army and the Weathermen. In this particular issue of the newsletter, Syrop discusses the Weathermen and the 1970 explosion of their townhouse bomb factory on 11th Street in Greenwich Village (one of the survivors was Kathy Boudin, who was on parole for assaulting a PO in Chicago and who would later participate in the multiple police murders during the infamous BLA Brinks Robbery in Nanuet NY). From the article:

Quote:But at the New School, others are more sympathetic to the group. “History has told us stories of both success and failure,” said Jeremy Syrop, leader of the New School SDS, an organization inspired by the 1960s group of the same name. “Whatever revolutionary potential which may exist today is up against a more dangerous and brutal enemy which has learned from its mistakes of the past.” Whether this means that Syrop condones violence against a more powerful “enemy” is unclear. New School February 2006 newsletter
--------------------------------------

Other interests of his have been Castro's Cuba, the MOVE organization in Philadelphia (he interviewed Ramona Africa from MOVE in another newsletter), rastafarians and the Zapatista Revolutionary Movement in Chiapas Mexico.
--------------------------------------

In my opinion, Jeremy Syrop has moved beyond dumbass, youthful romanticizing of revolutionary movements, particularly those that have led to the murders of police officers. He is a pro-active organizer and has deliberately associated himself with the terrorist revolutionary vanguard of days past and is trying to organize a new vanguard for today. He is a time bomb waiting to go off.

Hello Pharaoh!

I'm well, thanks. Busy as ever. There are some things coming up soon and I'm trying to think of what to post next in the meantime. I do have some ideas floating around in my head. Something about New York.

I suppose I'm more of a bi-monthly blogger at this point. So much news minute-by-minute and everyone else seems to have it covered so well.

I'm happy that our petition has over 18,000 signatures at this point. A nice show of unity among not only Americans, but people all over the world. So that is good news.

Why has this asshole been on death row for 24 years?

It didn't take this long for him to kill Danny Faulkner.

Can't someone just walk past his cell and blow his brains out?
